About

Kids in fourth grade learn skills and concept and also individual pace instruction and practice is provided based on the specific level. Through differentiation, the individual needs of each student will be met, including support both for students struggling to grasp materials and students who have mastered and exceeded grade-level expectations

Our Units of Study Include:

Reading, Realistic Fiction, Science Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry, Writing, Poetry, Informational Writing, Narratives, Persuasive Arguments

Children’s Social and Emotional Development

The class will have frequent class meetings where skills such as empathy, collaborative problem-solving, and cooperation will be taught and practised.

Learning in Mathematics

In Math, we use a variety of resources tailored to meet students’ needs, all of which are aligned to both Common Core and Aero Standard. We use the NAMC curriculum, a highly effective program designed to build students’ confidence and love for math. It is rigorous, personalized, and engaging. Students will be encouraged to use a variety of tools and strategies and to show their thinking in many ways. Our units of study include: Place Value and base-ten concepts, All operations(addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), Fraction concepts and operation, Decimal and Percentages, Algebraic Thinking, Data Analysis, Measurement, Geometry

Learning in Language Arts

The literacy curriculum in upper elementary is tailored to meet the needs of the students. We will be using novel studies for individualized and small-group instruction, as well as whole-group units. We will teach and use the 6+1 Traits of writing in a writer’s workshop format

Learning in Social Studies and Science

The Science and Social Studies Curriculum is project-based. Students will investigate the world through purposeful research and group collaboration. Our units of study include: Change and Life in the City, Right and Relationship in our World, Electricity, Sounds and Light Energy, Climate Change, Writing, Informational Writing, Narratives, Persuasive Arguments, Poetry
