Grade 3 Program

About

A mindful effort will top our third-grade agenda. Throughout the course, the kids will be asked to think openly, engage earnestly, and try ideas thoughtfully. Our free but focused philosophy, as a classroom norm, will develop confidence for further inquiry. To enhance our learning environment, and support comprehension, we have tried to reduce visual classroom distractions, however, the remaining decorations I hope will prompt curiosity or promote calm. Thus, with uncluttered minds to think, engage and try, the kid’s path to learning success has been cleared for insights into greater knowledge.

Homework Philosophy

Building study habits is undoubtedly important for academic success. Fortunately, in third grade, this individual responsibility could simply mean 30 minutes of pleasurable after-school reading. Fluent reading is essential to academic success.

Language Arts

Classroom reading will use the NAMC approach which focuses on reading comprehension, accuracy, fluency, extending vocabulary and stamina. Our reading activities will include novel studies, read-aloud and small guide reading groups, and independent reading time. Writing skills will be monitored and improved using 6+1 Traits to develop ideas, voice organization, word choice, sentence fluency, grammar and spelling.
